Infokid Project
Infokid Project reaches to children with the fruits of ICT.
We start simple.
We start organizing camps for children. We will have a few computers with Internet connection, a number of digital cameras , and a handy-cam.
We love Free and Open Source Software. We believe in its philosophy and the concept of ‘Share Knowledge’.
So we introduce to Children a Free Software Based Operating System- namely Ubuntu – and a bunch educational and other interesting tools.
Mostly we do the sessions with help of games-both online and offline.Children love it.
Then we introduce the Children to the potential use of internet. We encourage them to play around with interesting tools in the web.
Children get to know the importance of photo sharing, video sharing and its implication in knowledge generation
We take children to wikipedia and let them understand it ,by editing formatting etc.
We encourage them to start contributing to it- may be writing a tiny article about their village, school etc.
We teach children how to build website/blog for them selves. How to write content for it,how to network etc.
We teach children advanced searching techniques online, and tips and online safety, and privacy measures
Also we give children and opportunity to get to know and use modern electronics gadgets in the communication world.
We hand them out digital cameras they go out with it, take photos and come back.
This exercise give them insights into the role pictures in documentation.
We also make movie making camps for Children. we teach how to handle a handycam, how to edit a footage with Free Software tools.
We explain to them the simple concepts in Film making. Our approach is that learn it by doing.
With all these activities we try to help children of disadvantaged communities to get opportunity to understand the prospectus of modern day communication technology for their expression and creativity and personal growth
